Education & Safety

Bicycling is a viable form of transportation that provides health and environmental benefits to individuals and our region as a whole.  As bicycling popularity continues to grow for commuting trips, as well as recreation throughout the region, it becomes inherently important that bicyclists and motorists know how to safely coexist.  Education of cyclists and motorists is a priority as the Capital Region moves towards improving cycling infrastructure and increasing the safety of cycling on our roadways and trail networks.

This section promotes bicycling in the Capital Region and provides safety tools, skills, laws and tips for safely sharing the road.  It provides educational resources for anyone concerned with bicycle safety including planners, engineers, private citizens, educators, advocates, law enforcement, interested bicyclists and all roadway users.  If you are interested in switching from occasional recreational bicycling to regularly commuting to work, you may want to take a workshop offered by one of the organizations listed in this section or join a local bike club to get involved in the local bicycling community.
